Hudson Street Deli @ 68 Hudson Street

Seldom is a sequel as good as the first. The constant homage paid to the original is generally exploitative and the formula repetitive.

Not so this time.

The Hudson Street Delicatessen (formerly the Hudson St. Market) has re-opened under new ownership and a complete interior overhaul.  Rebecca Rossi, the new owner and Armory District resident, made great improvements to the former market and opened its doors for the first time today (Sep 14, 2009) from 10:30am-1:30pm.

Hudson Street keeps The Grinder
I couldn’t return without first trying good ol’ faithful – The famous Hudson Street Grinder. The new deli has not only maintained the grinder’s LARGE size, but they’ve made it taste even better than ever!  Quality ham, Genoa salami, pepperoni, provolone cheese, onions, roasted pepper, pepperoncini, tomato and romaine lettuce is sandwiched between a full loaf of Crugnale’s fresh Italian bread. I’ve never experienced this grinder so fresh

and delicious. The most notable new modification…a mouthwatering Italian salsa on bottom that complements all the sandwich ingredients in a way that the old mayo and mustard never could. The tasty memory of this is making me so hungry I’m headed to the fridge to unwrap the other half before I finish this article.

Signature Sandwiches
Rebecca is quick to tell you that you can have your sandwich anyway you want it. However, if you lack creativity or just don’t want to make another complex decision, take your pick from their fine menu of signature sandwiches. Hey, would you look at those prices?!
